Ashtanga Yoga
Yoga is. philosophy of life which also has the potential to create a vibrantly healthy body and mind.
“Ashtanga” means eight limbs and each limb or branch supports the other.
“VInyasa” means breath synchronized movement.
Ashtanga yoga is an in-depth study of the union between the mind, body and spirit, with the breath being the heart of this practice as each movement is connected with your breath. Ashtanga Yoga practiced in its correct order, gradually leads one to rediscover their fullest potential on all levels - physical, psychological and spritual. Through this practice of correct breathing, postures and gazing point we gain control of the senses and a deep awareness of ourselves. By maintaining this discipline with regularity and devotion one acquires steadiness of body and mind.
The Ashtanga yoga method was originally taught in Mysore, southern India by the late yoga master, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Since the first Ashtanga classes were taught in Mysore, this style of teaching is named after the city and is really just short for “Mysore Style Ashtanga” - meaning one-on-one guidance from a teacher within a group setting taking each practitioners unique body and capacity to foster a personalized and meditative practice.
