MYSORE STYLE CLASSES
This is the foundation of the Ashtanga method and regardless of age or ability, students in these classes practice and learn together under the guidance of one of our experienced teachers.
Mysore is a self-paced class allowing students to receive individual instruction in a group setting while learning the practice. New students starting out receive more attention as their practice is build and the duration of time will vary for each student.
All levels are welcome from beginners to advanced practitioners looking to deepen their understanding of the practice; the only thing you need is a desire to learn & and an open mind.
Modifications and assists are offered.
LED PRIMARY SERIES
Led Primary is for both new as well as experienced students. It is an important compliment to a regular Mysore practice and an opportunity to deepen you understanding and ensure that each vinyasa is being learned and practiced correctly. Following the teacher’s count and pacing, led class helps students check in and refine their steadiness. The focus of the synchronizing breath and movement helps promote a meditative flow. It is an opportunity to increase both our internal and external strength.
GUIDED PRANAYAMA (Free Community Class)
Pranayama is the practice of breath regulation. In Sanskrit, “prana” means life energy and “yama” means control. The practice of pranayama involves breathing exercises and patterns, and just like the ashtanga practice they have a pattern and are taught slowly, building as you go along.
Students will be guided through the Ashtanga Yoga Pranayama Sequence which can be helpful for students of all levels to develop awareness and skill around breath, bandhas and mental focus.
GUIDED MOON SEQUENCE
This Moon Sequence practice was designed by Matthew Sweeney and is a nice complement to the Ashtanga Primary Series. It is appropriate to practice on New and Full Moon Days. The general energy is more grounded and cooling, with no chaturangas and a nice rolling vinyasa to reset for each new set of postures. The hip openers and forward folds are nicely balance with unique back bending and a delicious closing sequence.
FULL VINYASA LED PRIMARY SERIES
Ashtanga Primary Series is most commonly practiced in the "Half Vinyasa" form, meaning that between seated poses, students flow through to Downward Dog and then back to seated. In "Full Vinyasa Form", students flow through all the way to standing (Samastitih) between poses and then back to seated again for the next pose.
This traditionally led class is both relaxing and stimulating and truly embodies the idea of a moving breathing practice or meditation. It is offered on the Winter & Summer Solstice.
OPEN PRACTICE
This simply means that the shala will be open for students to come and practice independently. It is a designated time when the shala is open for community members to practice together, but no teacher is assigned to oversee students practice and no adjustments or assists will be given. This is on the schedule for established practitioners or for those to get started with there practice and continue to practice into the Mysore time.
